Day 7: The Delight of Shabbat

Day 7: The Delight of Shabbat

Scripture Focus:
"If you honor it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words . . ."
—Isaiah 58:13-14

A Call to Rest in Delight

One of the reasons the King has come into the Field is to restore something He considers very important—something that has been neglected, dismissed, or misunderstood.

Only Awestruck Hearts can see its true value and experience its blessing.

This is where our journey comes in, Old Friend.

The thing that sets the Awestruck Heart ablaze is something the world considers unnecessary, outdated, and even insulting to its intelligence and busy schedules.

What is this treasure?

It is the שבת – Shabbat.

You may know it as the Sabbath.
It comes every seventh day, calling to us, challenging our sense of self-importance.

Yes, that "4th Commandment thing" still exists.

It is alive and full of the breath of the Holy One.

Shabbat Is Not Just Another Day

The 7th day can never be just another day.

It has been blessed and made holy by the Voice of the Creator Himself.

On the 7th day, the Holy One did something incomprehensible:

He stopped creating.

  • He could have kept creating—calling new things into existence.
  • He could have continued separating realms from realms, light from darkness, land from sea.
  • But He willed Himself to stop.

Why?

So that He could enjoy what He had made.

And the final thing He created—the reason He paused—was…

You and me.

The King of the Universe chose to cease His work so that:

  • We could stop what we are doing and enjoy Him.
  • He could stop and enjoy us.

Shabbat Is an Invitation to Be With Him

Shabbat is a time to be alone with the King, and for Him to be alone with us.

It is a day when we set aside our agendas, our distractions, and our anxieties—not as a burden, but as a gift.

Have you been denying Him His delight?

The King longs to take pleasure in the "you" He created.
But have you been too busy, too preoccupied, or too self-consumed to give Him that time?

Prayer for the Journey

O Great King,
Forgive me for being so selfish,
for getting so busy,
for letting earthly concerns steal from You—
and from myself—
the immeasurable pleasure of Your appointed time of delight.

Awestruck Heart Challenge #7

The first Shabbat of this season is upon us.

What adjustments would the Holy One have you make
to improve the quality of your Sabbath experience?

How can your family draw closer to the King on this day?

Awestruck Heart Exercise #7

  1. Read: Genesis 1:27 - 2:3 and Leviticus 23:1-3

  2. Write: A list of ways you think the Holy One would enjoy spending time with you on Shabbat.

  3. Write: A list of subjects you think the Holy One would like to converse with you about on Shabbat.

  4. Read & Meditate: Hebrews 4:4-13 and Isaiah 66:20-23

  5. Tell the King:

    I HAVE SINNED, MY KING!

I HAVE SINNED AGAINST YOUR HEART
BY WITHHOLDING MY FULL ATTENTION FROM YOU
WHEN YOU WANTED TO STOP AND JUST TAKE DELIGHT IN ME.

I HAVE OBSESSED ABOUT WORLDLY THINGS
WHEN YOU CALLED ME TO OCCUPY MYSELF
WITH NOTHING BUT TAKING DELIGHT IN YOU.

TEACH ME WHAT IT MEANS TO REST IN YOU,
    WITH YOU, AND THROUGH YOU.

TEACH ME HOW TO ENTER YOUR REST
THE WAY YOU WISH FOR ME TO.

DISCERN ALL THE THOUGHTS AND INTENTS OF MY HEART.

    HERE I AM—AS I AM.

PLEASE, MY KING… YOU ARE INDEED MY DELIGHT.

I AM FOR YOU A PRIVATE GARDEN.

COME INTO YOUR GARDEN THIS DAY,
    AND TAKE DELIGHT IN ME!

Closing Reflection

Shabbat is not a burden.

It is an invitation to delight in the King—and to let Him delight in you.

This week, will you honor His call?
Will you set aside your ways, your pleasures, your words—and just rest in Him?

The King is waiting.
