Day 12: The Exceedingly Great Reward
A Call to Return to Your First Love
Avram had a strange pattern in life.
He kept walking away from riches.
- He left behind his inheritance in Charan.
- He amassed great wealth in Egypt, yet watched half of it leave with Lot.
- He rescued Lot from captivity and found himself in possession of all the wealth of the Jordan Rift Valley.
- Time after time, he found himself overflowing in gold and silver—
and then he gave it away.
Ask Lot! Ask Melki-Tzedek! Ask the King of Sodom!
What was it about Avram?
Money did not motivate him.
Perhaps that is why the Holy One kept processing so much wealth through his hands.
But there was something that stirred Avram's passion.
It wasn’t the land of Israel—he kept moving.
It wasn’t a child—he had made peace with not having one.
The Hunger That Drove Avram
Avram wanted something far greater.
Something so powerful, so intoxicating, that it made him leave behind everything.
Avram was driven by a hunger—a hunger for the Presence of the Holy One Himself.
His heart and soul thirsted for the One whose Voice had guided him,
who had romanced him since the day he left Charan.
The Holy One Himself was Avram’s Exceedingly Great Reward.
Once, Old Friend, He was that for you as well.
Prayer for the Journey
Great King,
How I have missed You being my everything.
How I long to return to a place where only You—
not the things of Your creation—
are my exceedingly great reward.
Awestruck Heart Challenge #12
Return the Holy One to the Throne of your life.
Get back to the place where:
- Only His Presence
- Only His Touch
- Only His Will
- Only His Voice
Can make your heart leap and feel truly alive.
Awestruck Heart Exercise #12
-
Read:
- Isaiah 62:11 – 63:1
- Song of Songs 1:2-4
- Song of Songs 8:3-7
-
Reflect:
- What do you truly enjoy in life?
- Where do you go? What do you do?
- What sights, conversations, and experiences bring you delight?
-
List these things in descending order of pleasure.
- Where does conversing with the Holy One rank?
- Is spending time with Him a joy or a responsibility?
-
Read & Meditate:
- Hebrews 11:8-16
- Psalm 27:4
- Philippians 3:7-10
-
Tell the King:
I HAVE SINNED AGAINST YOU GRIEVOUSLY, MY KING.
I HAVE ALLOWED OTHER PLEASURES, OTHER DELIGHTS,
OTHER THINGS AND PEOPLE TO SEDUCE ME AWAY FROM MY FIRST LOVE.I HAVE LET MY FLESH AND MY APPETITES RUN AMUCK.
I HAVE PLACED MY RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU FAR TOO LOW ON MY PRIORITY LIST.
BUT NOW I COME BACK TO YOU.
I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU ARE THE ONLY SOURCE OF PLEASURE AND PURPOSE
WORTH PURSUING, LIVING FOR, AND DYING FOR.
Final Reflection
The King is in the Field.
But will your heart recognize Him?
Or have lesser loves stolen your devotion?
Return to your First Love today.
