Day 1: Returning to Childlike Awe
A Call from the Awestruck Heart
Hello, old friend. It has been a while since you heard my voice.
I have longed for this moment—to renew our relationship, to reconnect as we once did. I look forward to hearing about your journey, to walking with you again in this significant season.
Who am I, you ask?
I am the Awestruck Heart—the part of you that once marveled at the Creator’s handiwork, that found joy in His presence. We were once inseparable. I lived within you.
But something came between us. Do you remember?
Once, you gazed at the world with wonder. The setting sun took your breath away. The stars made your eyes well with tears. The eagle soaring at dawn awakened a longing in you. The rush of the river made you want to dance.
You used to dwell on the tenderness of the Creator’s touch, the beauty of His voice, and the artistry of His hands.
But then… something changed.
Your mind reduced your relationship with the Creator to a creed. You replaced His living voice with doctrines and traded His presence for programs. His vast reservoir of truth became nothing more than clichés and slogans.
Meanwhile, in secret, self-centeredness took root. You clothed yourself with fig leaves of self-righteousness, convincing yourself that you were good while others were not. Your mind accepted the illusion, but deep down, you knew I could not be fooled.
So you withdrew. You silenced me. You shut me out.
But now… it is time.
If you are willing, come with me. Let’s embark on the Late-Summer Journey of the Awestruck Heart. It is time to heal what was lost.
Prayer for the Journey
Awestruck Heart Challenge #1
Recapture Childlike Wonder!
Awestruck Heart Exercise #1
- Read: Jeremiah 32:17-19
- Observe: Find something in creation to stare at in amazement—the sky, a flower, an animal, the waves of the ocean, the details of a leaf.
- Meditate: Read Psalm 145 slowly. Let its words stir your heart.
- Ask the King:
- Where did I lose my sense of wonder?
- Where did I surrender my childlike awe?
- How can I regain these things?
Closing Reflection
The journey has begun. As you walk through today, let your heart awaken to the beauty that surrounds you. The Creator’s voice is still speaking. The Awestruck Heart is still waiting.
Will you listen?
