Day 14: Remember the Sabbath

Day 14: Remember the Sabbath

Scripture Focus:
"Zakor [remember/commemorate] Et-yom-ha-Shabbat the Sabbath day, L’kadsho [to treasure, cherish, and keep vigil over to protect its holiness]."
—Exodus 20:8

A Call to Remember What He Remembers

The Beautiful Voice of the Creator rang out across Sinai"Zakor!" (Remember!)

That Hebrew word still echoes across the world today.

  • Some respond.
  • Some do not.

For those who respond, it is not about legalism.
It is not about earning favor.

It is simply about valuing what our Bridegroom-King values.

Why Do We Remember Certain Things?

We tend to remember and cherish events that we assign great value to.

Consider a wedding anniversary:

  • We remember because we value what happened that day.
  • We plan time with the one who made that day special.
  • We relive the emotions of that day.
  • We express gratitude for the blessings it brought into our lives.

But do we remember the first time we walked on wet grass?
Or the first time we ate bread?

No.

Because we do not value those events the same way.

What we remember shows what we treasure.

The Sabbath Is Worth Remembering

Something incredibly valuable happened on the 7th day of Creation.

Do you not remember?

  • It was our day of Edenic bliss.
  • It was the day of just us—God and man, together.
  • No tears. No shame. No fear. No blame.
  • The Creator and man spent time together,
doing nothing but delighting in each other’s presence.

Oh, that we would remember!

Oh, that we would make special time to relive that moment!

The Sabbath is a taste of Eden.
And one day, it will be restored in full.

Prayer for the Journey

O My Glorious Bridegroom-King,
Yes, I remember!

For 24 hours, let my sole focus be to relive the bliss
of that Wonderful Day of Just Us.

Awestruck Heart Challenge #14

Recognize the eternal value of the 7th Day.

The Sabbath represents:

  • Life before the Fall—man walking in the Garden with the Holy One
  • A time without sin
  • A time without shame
  • A time when the faculties of thought, speech, sight, hearing, smell, taste, and understanding were uncorrupted by the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil

Awestruck Heart Exercise #14

  1. Read:

    • Isaiah 51:3, 11, 15-17
    • Ezekiel 36:33-37
  2. Consider:

    • What about the Holy One’s Sabbath is worth remembering and commemorating?
  3. Imagine:

    • What do you think life in Eden before the Fall was like?
  4. Reflect:

    • What do you like to do—or think you would like to do—with your spouse on your anniversary?
    • What would be a perfect day of intimacy, remembrance, and joy?
  5. Read & Meditate:

    • Revelation 22:1-7
  6. Tell the King:

    BEAUTIFUL KING!

I DO NOT YET RECOGNIZE 1/10th OF THE VALUE
OF THE DAY YOU HAVE CALLED HA-SHABBAT [THE SABBATH].

TEACH ME HOW THIS DAY TOUCHES YOUR HEART.

HOW IT PLAYS IN YOUR MEMORY.

LET ME SHARE IN YOUR EXCITEMENT AND JOY ON THIS DAY.

I WANT TO SPEND THIS ENTIRE DAY JUST ENJOYING AND DELIGHTING IN YOU—
AND LETTING YOU KNOW HOW THANKFUL I AM
THAT YOU HAVE SET ASIDE THIS TIME JUST FOR US TO BE TOGETHER.

Final Reflection

The Sabbath is not a rule—it is a love story.

A story of God setting aside time to be with His beloved.

A story of restoration, delight, and remembrance.

Will you remember what He remembers?

Will you cherish what He cherishes?

Enter into the joy of the Bridegroom.
